Know Where To Go
Know Where To Go

The emergency room is not your only choice for medical care.

When you are sick or hurt, it can be hard to know where to go. Picking the right place helps you get care faster.

If it is not an emergency, call your primary care provider first. If you cannot see your regular doctor right away, urgent care is another good choice.

Start Here: Do I Have a Life- or Limb-Threatening Emergency?
  • YES --> Call 911 or go to the nearest hospital. They are equipped to treat serious, life-threatening conditions.
Examples include:
  • Chest pain or pressure that could be a heart attack
  • Trouble breathing
  • Signs of a stroke, such as sudden weakness, numbness, confusion or trouble speaking
  • Severe bleeding that will not stop
  • Loss of consciousness
  • A serious head injury
  • Severe burns
  • A major injury or accident
  • A serious allergic reaction with trouble breathing or swelling
  • A condition that could result in the loss of a limb
When in doubt about a life-threatening emergency, call 911.

  • Condition that needs follow-up care
No primary care provider?
If you are uninsured, or on Medicaid or Medicare, you can contact N.E.W. Community Clinic for primary care.

URGENT CARE
"I need care soon."

Can't get in to see your primary care provider? Urgent care may be a good choice for:
  • Minor cuts that may need stitches
  • Sprains and strains
  • Minor burns
  • Fever or flu symptoms
  • Ear infections
  • Urinary tract infections
  • Vomiting or diarrhea
  • Mild asthma symptoms
  • Minor broken bones
  • Other illnesses or injuries that need prompt attention
Urgent care is for problems that cannot wait for a regular doctor's appointment but are not emergencies.

They are open 24 hours a day and are equipped to handle serious and life-threatening conditions.

If your condition is life- or limb-threatening, don't wait for an appointment or urgent care.
