Sexually transmitted infections are common infections spread by sexual contact. Rates of several STIs are increasing in Wisconsin. Fortunately, STI testing is available and treatment for STIs is generally simple, affordable, and well-tolerated. STIs can also be prevented. If you are diagnosed with an STI, we may reach out to make sure you and your partner(s) have received appropriate treatment and to provide education.

Mpox
Mpox (formerly known as monkeypox) is a rare disease caused by infection with the mpox virus. It can be spread through close, personal contact, including oral, anal, or vaginal sex. Symptoms are similar to smallpox symptoms but are milder. There is no treatment specifically for mpox, but most people will fully recover within 2-4 weeks. Click here for more information.
The mpox vaccine can protect against infections. Click here to learn more about who should be vaccinated.
HIV
HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus. It weakens a person's immune system by destroying important cells that fight disease and infection. There is currently no effective cure for HIV. But with proper medical care, HIV can be controlled.
HIV treatment involves taking medications called antiretroviral therapies (ART). These medications are available in two forms: pills and shots. Most people can get the virus under control within six months.
Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) is medicine that reduces your chances of getting HIV from sex or injection drug use. When taken as prescribed, PrEP is highly effective for preventing HIV. If you are interested in PrEP, request an appointment with Vivent Health. You may choose to make your first visit with a PrEP Navigator to learn more about PrEP.
